I picked up this coffee grinder for a camping trip I went on this last weekend as an alternative to freeze dried instant coffee. This isn't something I would use on a backpacking trip but is great for car camping or in home grinding (if you like the work).
The grinder is divided into three parts: The bottom grounds catcher, the grinder itself and the handle. The handle detaches and has a small storage loop on the side of the grinder itself. All of these components conveniently come with a mesh storage bag.
The operation of the entire thing is a bit of work, as can be expected from a hand grinder, but it does make satisfactory grounds for brewing in a french press or something similar. Expect to get your workout though for the few minutes it takes :)
This coffee grinder was such a pleasure to use. With the ability to grind coarse, medium and fine, the manual hand crank was extremely easy to turn and doesn't take a lot of strength to grind the beans. The beans, ground, came out to the desirable level that I wanted (medium). It is the perfect size to take with me on camping trips when I want to just sit back in the mornings and brew my coffee with a pourover cone in the wilderness. Compact, lightweight, and easy to use, but one thing should be noted. The compartment that holds the ungrounded coffee beans have a bit of a thin wall which is no problem in holding the beans, Overall, very good product.
This small grinder has so much to offer! The range and precision of grind is amazing. My daily grinder is a huge pro quality rancillio rocky, but its expensive, difficult to clean and very difficult to adjust (takes three hands). This grinder is perfect whether you drink coffee every day or just occasionally. I can't wait to take it camping. Another added bonus is its extremely quiet. I work odd hours and sometimes I need to brew coffee while other people are asleep. Crumpling tissues is louder than this thing, and its pretty quick too. The handle is long enough to make it easy for my kids to crank, and short enough to stow away in the side strap for travel. The sight glass is a nice way to see how the grind is adjusted. The actual grind is very accurate, it easily goes from french press all the way to turkish! I was blown away, as most grinders lean towards more coarse or more fine, not all. I honestly think this is my new favorite coffee device, and I have a lot!!
